Expedit re-purposed as bed frame for maximum storage

Expedit re-purposed as a bed frame for maximum storage

Materials: Expedit bookcases, lattes Sultan Lurøy

description:

step 1. trawling endless furniture stores in search of a laptop cheap bed frame with lots of storage. Impossible!
Step 2. A friend suggested stealing milk crates to use as a framework - too much effort trying to keep low enough!
Step 3. A quick search for "milk-crate" inspiration found it, but I thought it was too high for a survey a few other options, meanwhile, always sleep on the floor :(
Step 4. Ikea has released a version with a single layer of Expedit, so this was very simple to construct. ie build 2 shelves, space, lay the strips on top. Completed!
I think I'm going to fix the battens down more securely (currently detained with masking tape on cardboard strips) and libraries are not quite as long as the bed so I'll build another box to go under the mattress of the end for more support, but it is a great improvement over what I had before.
So for $ 268, I now have a bed frame, I can carry in a small car, carry up 3 flights of stairs on my own and store rubbish in !

Bedroom malm nightstand and Pax TV stand hack

House nightstand malm and Pax TV stand hack

Materials: Malm, Pax, brackets, plumbing straps

description: My husband and I purchased a 1960 split level has relatively little storage space and small rooms. In the "master" room, we used two nightstands Malm we already had, it took them apart and mounted drawers to the wall as bedside means.

After the Malms aside, I nailed plumbing straps to the underside of maintaining unity from falling apart and attached to the top of the wall using brackets and mollies.

On the other side of the room, we need to store clothes and a place for our TV. We used two PAX units that we already had, then bought another PAX part of birch. We already had a connection for a Pax unit of which they are more inland. Using materials of this old unit, we made the new unit PAX an entertainment area (TV, DVD, etc.).

Ikea also sold a smaller door Nexus corresponding to the bottom of the new unit. Then we used the SKUBB boxes like baskets. The entire unit is not really a hack - but Ikea does not seem to offer the Pax units that are "double duty" as clothing storage and entertainment units. In this small space, you really had to try to maximize space to better meet our needs.

Ikea products used in the bedroom: PAX wardrobes, doors NEXUS KOMPLEMENT interior fittings, bedside Malm, Ikea and various items they offer more.

Dressing Table

Dresser

Materials: 2 shelves missing, 4 baskets, 1 circular mirror

description:
My boyfriend and I moved into our first apartment together - the only problem with the place is that the bathroom is very very small - and all our stuff (especially mine) just not appropriate.

I liked some of the dressing tables they have at Ikea, but we do not have that much room in our apartment, and I did not have room in my budget for something like that ... Then, enter the shelves, and baskets! . Problem solved

MALM marries ALSARP

Malm wife ALSARP

Materials: 1 x Malm super king bed; 2 x ALSARP one size; usual tools; 2 piece of wide elastic band or high ribbonde

Description: This is not my idea (I've read here and was featured on Ikeahackers here), and it was done before, but it is useful and relatively easy as I thought that I share.

We had a super king size Malm (UK size) for a few years and I was always frustrated that I can not use the large amount of space underneath for storage because it is too low for any drawers / boxes, etc. so when I came across the idea, I work ed to see if he could arrange a superking bed too (it was made for small sizes only).

Malm super-king measures W180cm x L0cm; two single ALSARP work well for her (each measuring W0cm x L0cm). They perfectly into the framework Malm - fairly snugly so it looks very clean and the mattress rests on the two ALSARP fine.

My mattress (not IKEA) is huge, of course, and quite heavy, but it seems that the "hydraulic" mechanism ALSARP takes very well. It is a bit heavy to lift, but not too much. I will not just store things that I have every day.

Once both ALSARP are assembled according to instructions, including blankets (very simple in my opinion), they need to be slotted in Malm, which is literally the only bit of your process take some effort.

I used a strong elastic band and off around the haberdasher to connect the two sets of blades so that they rise and fall together. It should also raise two handles and taking care to raise quite uniform, but the elastic band will prevent a set of blades falling down on his own and potentially tilt the mattress to the side.

The bed becomes a bit higher than what was originally, but it basically looks like a normal bed, since the Malm is so low to begin with. The ALSAPR sits perfectly flush with the upper part of Malm so nothing can be seen of him, even when you want to return the quilt under the mattress.

I am delighted, this solution gives me lots of storage and you can reach easily all the way up under the raised slats so there is no wasted space.

I built myself in one afternoon while my husband is away. He was absolutely correct. The only stage where it would have been much easier to have two people on the job was to lift the second ALSARP under Malm; there is no room to maneuver, so it needs to go in a straight line, but I finally got myself too.

Please note down the ALSARP scratch under Malm, so if you need to rest it on the ALSAPR while you maneuver to place in, put a towel or something on the frame to protect it (it is very difficult).

solution to earn lots of storage and keep your nice, comfortable bed Malm Highly recommended.

A Twin Size Headboard for Less than $10

A twin size bed for less than $ 10

Materials: Vika Amon (Article No. 500.711.70)

description: I was looking to buy a simple headboard for double bed for use with a standard metal frame. However, it was difficult to find one without having to buy a whole bed and walk. I wanted to avoid the running especially as the room I was working was very small and do ???? t want to spend much.

The table Vika Amon measures 39 3/8 "by 23 5/8 ?? ??" ???? by 1 3/8 "thick ????. The 39 3/8" ???? table is almost exactly the width of a double bed, so I turned the table on the side and used as a headboard I used the Vika Amon white (article No. 500.711.70) which lists for only $ 5.99. It is also available in the same size in the Black finish / Black for $ 10.99 Article No. 002.098.39.

I bought the nuts, washers and bolts to Lowes for less than $ 3.00. It worked great and with less than $ 10.00 cost for all this material.

The headboard is not very high (about 6 "??? - 8" above the ???? surface of the mattress, but it is enough to keep the pillows from sliding down it also provides a good place to mount a flexible reading lamps IKEA as the Tived LED light for flexible rod. read in bed

Materials:
- Vika Amon :. (No. 002.098.39, $ 10.99.) White (item no 500.711.70, $ 5.99) or black / brown
- four quarter by 2 "long ???? bolts hex head (screws)
- Eight 1/4" fender washers (large diameter w / small hole)
- four 1/4 "nuts (I used insert lock nuts nylon vibration resistance)
Tools:
- 1/4" drill bit and drill
- Two key, 7/16 "????

Directions:

[

Trace holes 1: You will need to drill four holes in the Vika Amon for bolts to pass through. To place them appropriately hole, I placed the Vika Amon flat on the floor and my metal bed frame on it. Placing the lower edge of the bed frame close to the lower edge of the Vika Amon, so that the lower hole is about 01/02 to 03/04 "???? away from the edge. I traced openings in the metal bed on the Vika Amon with a Sharpie so I would be sure that drilling in the right places

2. drill. Remove the bedframe, put the Vika Amon on a work surface and drill four 1/4 "holes in the appropriate places. I drilled close enough to the edge to make the most of the internal frame near the edges of the otherwise hollow table.

3. Bolt: Turn the bolts to the back of the Vika Amon (wall side) using a large washer wing diameter to distribute the load across the relatively thin surface material of the Vika Amon . Insert the bolts on the side of the wall also prevents the projecting bolts and perhaps damage the wall surface. Slide bolts through the openings in the metal bed frame and again using a large diameter washer wing, put on the nuts and tighten them. Be careful not to over tighten and crush the surface. This is another advantage of using nuts nylon insert.

Loft Bed/Workstation

Loft Bed / Workstation

Materials: MATERIALS: Fjelldal Loft bed, table VIKA KAJ Leg, Door Solid Birch, thin pine board. TOOLS: table saw, hand saw, screws, some small nails

Description: I made it there as 4 years and did not realize what wonderful even existed Site . Anyway, it was really easy and cheap so I thought I would dig up some photos and sharing.

We wanted a small wokstation in my son's room, and it seemed to be obvious.

I went to the wood shop in search of a kind of counter - everything was coming in> $ 0 - so I ended up going home with a birch door $ 65 solid-core - corresponding perfectly matched and birch finish on the bed Ripped the door of my desired width (I chose a relatively thin 20 ") on the table of my neighbor saw and cut corners with a hand saw. I turned a small piece of pine that was about 1/4 "wider than the width office in the back office (you know, to keep things from rolling off). Some sanding, and a topcoat on it and it has been done.

I added the table leg to prevent deformation, although I think that it was probably excessive total.

Bonus: I ripped another large section 6 "of the door, finished, and set along the bottom with some wood screws to an attractive cable-hider - proved very own

EXPEDIT Loft Bed

EXPEDIT Loft Bed

Materials: 2x EXPEDIT 4 × 2, baseboard option PERFEKT, GULLIVER option or other junior bed

description: This is my last Ikea hack, I am using a pair of 4 × 2 EXPEDITs to a single loft bed. It seems that the width of 79cm EXPEDIT is a perfect match for 'small single' mattress a UK wide is 2'6 by 6'3 long, or one of the junior IKEA beds that are around 77cmx168cm long.

Note - I am fully aware that I mix feet / inches and mm - just go with it

Ingredients

2x EXPEDIT 4 × 2
Either: 1x junior bed eg GULLIVER
oR Small bed frame (2'6 x 6'3) made by me from wood, or:
4x CLS wood 63x38mm
6x smooth 38x18mm Planed
2x 144x18mm Planed smooth wood
+ optional: 2x PERFEKT ABSTRAKT plinth (or 2 × 18 144 more wood)
Big little 6mm Perspex and some aluminum profiles that I drag

Recipe

build both EXPEDITs as instructed
either build a bed frame using the following cuts:
2x CLS wood 6 ' 3 (structure sides)
2x CLS wood 2'6 (structural extremities)
2x PS wood 144 × 18 (or PERFEKT plinth) to 6'4.1 / 2 "(containing side)
2x PS wood 144 × 18 (or PERFEKT base) to 2'6 (containing ends)
12x PS wood 38 × 18 2'6 (slatted base)
oR: Build the junior bed (GULLIVER), cut legs out and use either PS or PERFEKT timber base to compensate for a solid lateral protection, bolted to each end on the side.
Bolt everything together, and as many walls that are available. I actually used the wall mounting brackets 4x PAX wardrobes, opened the holes in the short end of the "L" to marry up to the mounting bolts at the top of each EXPEDIT, and screwing the long part in the sides of the bed, from the inside.

result

I built the bed frame myself to adapt a unique little and make the most of the space in my the boy's room. I do not have PERFEKT base available and do not have time to go back to the shop, but I used it on the front fascia had I had since its one less thing to paint and be a shiny finish to match turquoise and bright white EXPEDIT units. I also built the scale using CLS timber that will need painting too. Finally, the entrance to the top of the scale reads in this case really need another support rail on the wall to make it easier to get in and out so I'll be adding a couple of long LANSA handles later; in time, I added an IKEA spare handle (now discontinued).

See the Expedit Loft bed.
