New Upholstered Headboard with Nailhead Trim
Materials: Hopen bed, plywood, Batting, Fabric, NAILHEAD Trim
description: We wanted a upholstered headboard for our bed Hopen.
First step, after measuring the size of the headboard you want, spread 3 batting layers on the floor and cut the measure, leaving about 4 inches each side to fall back on. Staple all around by pulling it as tight as possible.
Second, fix your fabric and do the same. Cut to size and leave about 4 inches all around. Staple your plywood. I started at the center and worked my way. Make sure you pull it tight with each clip. I used a leather like material {} vinyl that had a bunch of folds when I unfolded. Pull tight to get rid of wrinkles.
The last step is to line the board corners. I find that working with vinyl is a little tricky. This material is thicker and harder than the fabric. I folded corners and stapled in as cleanly as possible. It took a few tries he finally come out just right. The rear panel does not look very good, but no one will see.
Once the entire board was covered, we sat on our desk and we were ready to apply the nailhead trim. I ordered the kit version Nickel Nailhead online DIY Furniture Supply for about $ 17.00 plus $ 13.00 in shipping. I thought it would be much easier than using individual nailheads. Using the nailhead trim, simply hammer in all 5 nails. It is also easier to keep a straight line.
As mentioned above, we have the bed Ikea Hopen. The headboard was super easy to take off. My husband took off the screws that were fixed on the bed
With the extra piece of plywood, my husband used the table saw to cut three boards just below the height of the head. We wanted to reach the ground just to auxiliary anchor. He screwed in the 4 screws in total. Two at the bottom, two on top of the bed frame
Then my husband's head attached to wooden slatted bed. He also used 4 screws here. I applied the face of pressure before, so he pushed back. We wanted this to be as robust as possible
The headboard rests on the bed frame perfectly
