An EXPEDIT Bed for kids!

A bed of EXPEDIT for kids!

Materials: 2 2 × 2 EXPEDIT, MALM, SULTAN Lurøy, SULTAN HUGLO

description: having decided to renovate my children's room, and the search this site and come across some fantastic posts, I thought I would give it a go.

You may recognize many hacks like this, this, this and this!

There is a convenient safe Malm, 2 x EXPEDIT, Lurøy SULTAN bed base, a mattress SULTAN HUGLO and about 125 x 25 wood and some ACCELERATION 25 X 25 wood.

So first things first.
I had to do a test elements fit together with the mattress. I knew I had to really give the bed some stability by fixing the upper to at least two walls, but with two 2 × 2 Expedit and all drawers MALM the total length of the bed would be too long. I will come back later.

Construction Bedrooms.

So, as I said earlier, I had to make sure that the bed was secured against the wall on both sides. I built the main part of some 125 x 25mm timber (5 × 1 olde English !!) and fixed to the wall with the frame fixings (the same used to secure the door frames and windows, etc for walls). I did it on both sides and screwed and glued together the two sides

As you can see from the picture, I then glued and screwed some slats 25x25mm at the base frames. These act as a support for the bed slats. Also in the picture above, I have already secured one of Expedit wall units. This was done again using screw fixings through the edge of the units, as this is where the internal wooden supports are.

you have already noticed that the height of the Malm is less than the total height of the EXPEDIT, but this was rectified using a thin piece of MDF and shelf LACK reduce a table !!

The next task was to adjust the slats. As IKEA sells these separately, it was just a simple case of put them on the battens that were in place

The battens on MALM drawers were screwed with two 50mm screws. This ensured that the screws penetrating the slats, filling rooms above the drawers and drawers themselves.

The next task was a bit of a work tidy up. The gap on the side of drawers Malm was filled using an agglomerate white face piece

Of course, then came two sticking points. The first was how my son get on the bed?

This turned out to be easier than I thought. I just cut the ladders that were originally on her bed in the cabin so they fit well and after a few groves carved into the bed frame, they slipped up.

The second was that my wife panicked that he would fall out of bed After informing him that he would probably only do once, and after recovering from a black eye for such a "stupid thing to say:" I went with a closing style bed guard. This was built from wood that I had some in my garage and two left on slats to shorten my daughters bed FJELLSE.

What about the gap at the end of the mattress, you may ask. Well, after some consideration, I decided to turn this into a shelf. I had some left over white chipboard face I cut to size, screwed and sealed around the edges. I then a "bedside" of sorts to stop pillows falling off the mattress.

I also built an office for him and added some VIKA ALEX drawer below.
