RAST Storage Bed Hack
Materials: x3 RAST 3 drawer
description: I moved into a new apartment 1 bedroom recently, without much space storage, so I'm inspired by this site to try my own hack. My initial plan was to buy a drawer Malm 6 as with this hack, but when I went to Ikea I found three RAST on sale for $ 34.00 each and in addition to price because they were incomplete they were as solid wood, so I have instead. As far as I know no one had done this exact hack before, so I decided to be adventurous.
The first thing I did was purchase and assemble the three RAST and then when I had the dimensions to start drawing on my idea. I then took my initial sketch Lowe and the guy he helped me change a few things while keeping the general idea. The final plans (made in Google Sketchup) are attached here.
The purchased timber was a group of 2 × 4 pieces of wood and a piece of plwyood to the bed. The guys at Lowe nicely cut everything to me and the total cost of lumber was $ 67. The first step was to get the three RAST to each other that I use 1 1/2 inch wood screws, which were used throughout the project. After I built legs by placing two pieces of 2x4 against each other and fix the three points. Once this was done, I put the plywood on top, screw the other pieces, then assembled there from the top bunk. Once it was assembled I spotted the drawers and the frame itself (only the visible parts of the frame are actually stained for ease) and if I ever have to move again, I can disassemble the chassis and move as individual parts. The visible headboard in the picture was bought before and I coordinated the colors to match.
Overall, it was a lot of fun and now I have a completely custom bed frame. My cat also love all the storage space below, I used to hold my bags along with sheets of extra beds and clothes out of season.
Also to the height of the bed (some people were concerned), it is 32 "without counting the mattress and I am 5'4" with very short legs, but I can go up and down without a stepladder.
