IKEA Nightstand Hack - Plain White Stripes Bold
Confession I'm a decora-holic. Home Goods is my happy place. My undying loyalty to me almost won IKEA Swedish citizenship. I replace my furniture about as often as Kim Kardashian takes a selfie but on a pre Keeping Up with Kardashians budget , which is why I love finding affordable pieces that I can adapt to suit my personal style and decor (whatever happens to be this month).

Spoiler alert: the layout of these items for your Instagram has no effect on the outcome of this project
You'll want to start this project by removing and organization of all the pieces of IKEA Brimnes Chevet of the box ( unholy task, I know, I know ). It seems like a given, but the last thing you want is to realize halfway through the project you painted the wrong piece of wood. Do I speak from experience? I can not say ... but a "friend of a friend" offer nothing screams DIY-gone-awry as painted bright green random plinth ( " but it is abstract ," you try to talk).
specifically, we are looking for two identical large square wooden slats that make up the front of the head, as seen in our image " before . "There are only two in the box, so unlike most of Ikea sets, this is not like finding a needle in a haystack.
using the color of your choice, use a roller or brush to paint the two square wooden slats. I used two coats of Valspar green Clover # 05-8B.
Then it's time to prepare our Sheet metal Union Jack Aluminum brass. The thing I like about this metal is that it 1) is easy to cut with a pair of blades tin with straight sides, 2) is available in a wide range of patterns and colors and 3) looks pretty damn stylish and adds some great texture. I choose the model Union Jack 'brass headboard for this, but you can easily find Home Depot or Amazon to find the perfect style and color to accent your decor.
using a tape measure and wire cutters, carefully measure and cut six, 3 ½. x 19 in. strips of metal, making sure to follow the natural edge of the plate for a clean, straight edge.
While the paint still drying, begin to assemble the headboard IKEA Brimnes (or if you're like me, enjoy a glass of Pinot Grigio first and then begin to assemble ). I went ahead and assembled the shelves too ahead waiting for my second coat of paint is dry, but the part that we want to focus on right now is the head frame itself.
With the assembled main frame and wooden slats painted completely dry, slide the slats in the frame and set the wood in the upper part as shown in IKEA manual.
using a tape measure, find and mark lightly in pencil the center of each wooden slats. This painted determine the placement of our metal sheet in the next step.
using a glue all-adhesive strong drying, light suitable for both metal and wood, fix the cut metal sheets with painted wood slats, using three sheet metal parts to create a striped pattern on each side of the head. Within each painted wooden slat, two pieces of sheet metal must be pushed flat against each side, while the remaining part will be provided in the center at the location previously measured and marked.
use of strong all-adhesive or wood glue, use precut 1 ¾ inches. x 19 in. white finish wood slats and secure them in alignment with each piece of sheet metal, which makes the wood covers the plate as always slightly to cover the first metal edges. Essentially, we are creating a "framework" for each piece of sheet metal, so that each side of the headboard will require four white pieces of wood trim to complete the look.
After obtaining the sheet metal and wood trim on the headboard, let dry completely before finishing the headboard assembly as shown in the manual IKEA, which is probably the hardest part of the entire project (, but really, who knew the cartoon images can be as difficult to interpret as a foreign language? ).
and ta-da! a redesigned head that perfectly complements a customized color scheme and style. This project is fun, easy to fill and, most importantly, offers a stylish punch without the high price tag of custom furniture. Go ahead and splurge on the new booster cushions and down comforter to complement your room redesign - I promise I will not say
