FÖRHÖJA To Bed
Materials: FÖRHÖJA + Sultan Florvåg + wood castors
description: We were inspired by the recent hack of the bunk bed Kura our son recently outgrew its cradle. Alas, Ikea Brooklyn Kuras was not in stock, so we left with only the mattress and the sheet together.
Lying around the house, collecting dust, we had shelves of something FÖRHÖJA kitchen table / cart / Buffet (although ours is an older version 3 drawers wide, no wheels). We decided this would form the head and foot of the bed, we would get 2X3S used for the sides and we would like to use pieces of the broken half-nursery to support the mattress.
We cut the ends of FÖRHÖJA shelves to make them flush, 2X3S cut to length, and basically just drilled and countersunk wood before screwing everything to form a cuboid. We kissed the slats remains of the crib in the sides of the upper 2X3S then added a bit more length for an extra mattress support. We'll make it a little cleaner than / more functional on the line (perhaps using instead a 1/4 sheet "against-plated?), But it was bedtime on Christmas Eve and we needed to get 'er done!).
We decided that we might as well re-rollers of the old crib too, so we pulled them off, drilled and banged up on the new bed
like the splits on the side of the bed for now, we have a couple of large, shallow trays used for storage under the bed at a later date we can find a drawer or two of chipped and broken driveway that match and engineer those in place. or, we can just add a filler piece for aesthetics.
