Pax Hack – His and Her Closets

Pax Hack - His and Her Closets

Materials: Pax tonnes Malm Dresser

description: My wife and I recently bought a colonial house Dutch built in the early 100s due to his age, lack of home storage space, especially in the rooms. The Gambrel roof style (characteristic of the Dutch colonial domestic architecture) made large triangular volumes on each side of the house which was great for storage but difficult to access. Tons Pax sliding doors (we used only white panels) provided the ideal solution to enable access to large storage volumes, while adding a modern juxtaposition with traditional aesthetics.

walls existing were demolished and cropped to create the expansive openings least one inch width of doors). The upper track was attached to a ¾ "joist directly attached to 2" x12 "header (you will need 1 ½" gap between the top of the track and the ceiling for lift gates on the track). Because the glass doors are heavy, I drilled pilot holes in the face of every 16 track "to compensate for closures that we could not use in the typical assembly (make sure they are sufficiently high to erase the wheels the screw heads ... I learned the hard way). the bottom track was attached to a piece of custom cut oak stained to match the floor with 4 screws "milled wood. The background track (cut to fit into the framed opening) was then attached to the strip oak with standard equipment.

threaded 1 "black pipe, ground clamps, the galvanized wire and fittings were used to create closet rods and we put Malm 3 drawer chests for clothes folded below. The room itself same is clutter free because all our furniture is nestled behind the sliding doors. We have completed the installation with some steering box of lights and type of graphics (the glass panels make for a dry erase giant map) .

Although planning and careful evaluation was critical, the doors have built in some adjustability which was the successful installation. Phase 2 is to modernize the male side with coolers filled with Heineken .

update: November 12, 2011

Since the walls were healthy, we had to build temporary walls to support the roof trusses while removing existing poles and installation of the header.

heads have been installed for each opening and the interior has been stripped down to the studs ... and to our surprise, the roof sections where the gears are not properly insulated

top track was attached to the upper part of a fascia board 3/4 "wood manufacturer of drill holes. I pre-drilled me extra holes in the side of the upper rail fasteners that have kept the runway safely in place when the heavy doors were installed (the first time I hung the doors I had not added extra fasteners face and the door kept falling off the track because the track itself was bending). the added fasteners should be pre-drilled to the top of the track or doors pitcher will get stuck on the heads of screws. Since the weight of the doors is carried by this track, it is crucial that the track is secured approximately every 16 "to resist deflection. Drywall has been installed around the top track

Before mudding and taping

At this stage, I had to ensure that the doors would slide up and properly. I gathered as part of a door to try dry adjustment ...

The tolerance was close, but the door slid continuously on our uneven floors.

... and a detailed shot of the top rail when the installation is complete (note the height of the screws along the upper track for the wheels to ride without obstruction ) "
