a mid-century inspired tufted headboard

a tufted headboard mid-century inspired

paul sent me his hack some time and I almost lost this goodie in my inbox very disorganized. so glad I did not because I really like the headboard hacked.

"this particular hack involves a bed of heimdal frame metal ikea (I can not find it on the website of ikea) . The location was good, but it certainly lacked the call of elegance and mid-century I wanted to go. well after surfing some furniture sites, I fell on the bed tate of crate & barrel. I like the look of the bushy head and tight upholstery along the sides. so, I headed to the local fabric store (joann of) and luckily they had a foam padding and faux fabric suede for sale.

i cut the foam pad as measured bed and used heavy duty adhesive spray to adhere the foam on the metal frame. the hardest part was to sew the fabric of faux suede to wrap the foam padding and bed frame to make it seem more suitable, and not look like it was just wrapped fabric around the bed frame, i sewed the seams running along the sides of faux suede fabric that would be used to cover the rails side.

the most difficult part of any project, however measured how many places to go, and make all of them perfectly, even on the head. on the back of the canvas, I used a straight edge to draw the grid pattern that will guide me sew the fabric to create the seams, tufted look. Once I drew my grid on the back of the canvas, the next step was to create the seams are on the head. I do not want every square cut and sew together one by one to create running seams on the front of the headboard because it would take too much time and skills. as a shortcut, I just folded the cloth over himself slightly in each of the lines I drew on the back of the fabric and sewed a seam, using i lines were drawn as a guide.

once the fabric headboard was all sewn i wrapped the piece of foam that was to the head. Finally, to end the headboard, I took the same fabric to make buttons. Joann canvas or fabric store should have kits shutter button. i sewed the buttons on the headboard in the corners of square stitching. you must use the fishing twine to reach this leafy look, because you have to draw the buttons down tightly to achieve this depressed, tufted look. my fingers were so badly to do many buttons because the foam was incredibly thick. Finally, wrap the foam and fabric tightly around the bed of the head frame and you've got yourself a big bed, mid-century inspired! "

bravo, paul. I could never be as good or as the patient, with the needle.
