Hacking a Pax wardrobe to fit a tight spot
I do not have a great story to buy the correct size IKEA cabinets. In our last dish I bought too large. This time too broad.
The alcove on the left of the room is desperately not the same size as the space on the right about 10 centimeters. approximate measures that ignore inequality walls (if still used an old building) led to we find that the gap on the left was about two centimeters too narrow to 100 cm wide guards dress.
We realize that once we had all the opened packages and pieces ready for installation in the room. I know, I should have learned my lesson the last time.
But after spending a lot of time browsing IKEA Hackers we were not going to be beaten by a mere two centimeters!
After a lot of maneuvers, removing a Victorian plinth and many attempts to re-measure, we stumbled upon a solution. By placing the sides of the cabinet above the base instead of both sides thereof, we saved both centimeters. We did the same at the top, placing it high above the sides rather than between them
This just left the question of doors - .. 50 cm wide each
this is the part of our solution I'm most proud of. Look back to before / after peak - doors look normal right? Two 50 centimeter doors with metal handles? False. Here inside the doors of our wardrobe hacked ...
