Materials: Rast Night Stand

Since I decided to update my end tables I was looking for inspiration. I found this amazing unit with exaggerated cartoon wood grain by Richard Woods and Sebastian Wrong. I loved the colors and contrast fun, so I decided to try to get this look. RAST nightstands were a perfect size for my space. The original form of the bedside table would not work for me, so I decided to move the two shorter sides to the edges of the panels creating a single box.

I traced the exact position of the holes and marked the new position. I drilled new holes and speckled old, sanding any excess. Once that was done I switched to painting the cabinet. First, I taped the edges, because I wanted to have some left of painted wood. I dressed all boards on both sides. I wanted to keep the inside of the black and white of the cabinet, so I painted one side of each card with white paint. After drying, I Tranced design woodgrain on the boards, then monitoring plots with a brush and black paint.

After drying at least 24 hours, I moved to the other side of the boards. Since one of the short sides is the background, I must not paint the other side. I divided the remaining three cards colored sections and painted with 4 different colors alternately for my taste. After the paint dries, I redrawing the woodgrain on the boards and follow the traces with black paint. I let dry for 24 hours, removed the tape and put it together. I looked around the cabinet for any necessary alterations. Once I am satisfied, I covered with two coats of clear lacquer for resistance. I let it dry for 24 hours.
