Kura bed to loft bed hack

Kura bed loft bed hack

Materials: Kura bed, 3 × 2 wood

description: please note, make sure use sufficiently strong fixings to attach the bed to the wall, if you attach to a wall / drywall plaster, you'll need to attach it to the posts, DO NOT fix the pLASTERBOARD !!!!!!

I do this hack with completely built bed and me, but you can change it into pieces if you find it easier, and a second person help to make it easier, it m ' took about 3 hours, but would be faster if I had a second pair of hands. This must be done in a corner of the room you need 2 sides supported.

You will need.
1 x Kura Bed
1 x 3m length of wood (about 3 "x 2" ????)
Some murals appropriate fasteners and screws, and a few basic tools.

1. saw through the 5 vertical supports just below the main bed section to leave the top of the bed with the slats in place, if you are careful and use a hand saw, you can saw all legs and bed rests just above the frame, the cuts should be flush with the bottom of the main bed section.

2. Lift the top of the bed and set it aside.

3. Remove the rest of the lower frame and ladder and put all the pieces to one side, making sure that you know what parts are the original scale steps.

4. Decide what size you want the bed to be, I made the bottom of the bed of 1.7m from the ground, (we have high ceilings) it is about as big as you want to go, but you can go down if you want, using a long level mark a straight line at the wall to the height you choose the base of the bed to be (mark the longest side)

5. cut a piece of wood your 3 × 2 to the same length as the bed (about 2.1m) I cut a slight angle on the exposed end so he'd look nicer and less likely to hit the corner with you head.

6. Pre drill pilot holes about 6 in the timber at regular intervals.

7. Hold the timber up your line on the wall (which is the case of a second person would be useful), then using the pilot drill, drill each hole marks the wall behind.

8. Now, according to the wall type is drill and screw the plugs or if it '???? s a stud wall just pre drill a pilot hole. (A drill SDS Plus will give a pretty accurate hole in solid walls, a hammer drill is rubbish and normally makes an oval hole, and takes a long time to 5 drill)

9. Tighten the 6 screws halfway into the wood so they just stick to the other side this will help align the wood on the wall, the offer to the wall and screw, check '???? s beautiful and strong by clinging to it, if it moves, you need to hone your craft skills, ask your wife for some advice.

10. Repeat the previous steps for the short piece of wood to get to the other side, the left part of 3 × 2 should be the right length and already has good angle on it as well.

11. Then you need to lift the bed to new media timber and support the other side near where the scale will be, I used an adjustable plaster accessory to hold it in place but a piece of wood will do, using a level bed nice and level, and support.

12. Then take the two long pieces of wood from the base of the bed you removed earlier, this will form the new sides of the ladder, they will have a pin at each end, find a small piece of the database you can use to make the first round of the ladder, it goes flat on the floor will be wider than the rest of the steps, you must adapt this piece temporarily to get the right height (see Photos of the scale to see what i mean) once you have this in place the offer in bed and using a level to check that it is vertical, then measure and mark up and cut, repeat to the other side. (The scale goes from bottom to top of the bed, his screwed onto the front edge to make it the safest bed and rinse not equipped as it was originally, if you do not side the bed that keeps you from falling is too fragile)

13. once you have both sides cut off, you must perform the steps, you will throw the old scale to use as a guide to get the correct length, but you will need 2 or 3 more depending on the height you made the bed Try to keep the same spacing between the steps and keep the gap the same as the original to raise the ladder safely, the size of the gap was set by IKEA for a reason, better not amend.

14. Next is probably the hardest part, I cut steps to length using both the original as a guide, then drill holes in each for the ankles, if your attention, you can re use some of the original holes and use the original bolts and fasteners so for most steps, if you CANA ???? t use the original fixings simply secure each step with two screws on each side to stop bend, puncture pre holes to avoid splitting the wood. I had some that I had to live.

15. To mark the gaps on stage 2 amounts lay side by side, then using a tape measure and mark the place the two pieces together, they will all line up.

16. Attach the steps to scale.

17. Once the ladder is constructed offers up the bed, always check its level and tighten the ladder to the bed and secure with 6 screws (3 on each side), you can also add some L brackets to the rear of the scale where it joins the bed if you want, I'm not, but may do so in the future for peace of mind.

18. Now make sure the bed so completely embedded in the walls on both sides and secure with wooden wall supports by drilling holes in angle from below, then you screw through the 3 × 2 at an angle so that it also screw into the bed frame, to approximately every 30 cm on both sides.

19. All done, make sure it is solid, mine n '???? t move at all, even with me to climb the ladder, it is much stronger than it was originally, now to settle down for a nice dinner of meatballs and sauce, with added horse for flavor.

The following office is equally Ikea Vika Amon tops attached to Besta shelves on legs and some shelves Lack.
Top tips for woodworking and fastening screws is to buy a wireless impact driver, the one you have used one of these you will never want to use again a cordless drill for setting screw.
