Free-Standing Brimnes Chevet for tenants
Materials: Brimnes headboard, 2 Vika Furusund table legs solid wood, hand saw, tape measurer, pencil, screwdriver, screws more or less a Drimmel
description: Unfortunately, it seems too many of Ikea heads are designed to be wall mounted. This complicates things for renters like me (my owners like the wallpaper in the house). I came up with a very simple, easy to do the Brimnes free standing head.
All you do is screw the Vika Furusund table legs in the bottom / back of the headboard Brimnes.
I go with those legs because they are solid wood, and you need to cut them. Ikea does not offer table legs that are the right length.
After assembly of the headboard, I get to where I wanted to put the legs (the only place for them to live in is the bottom shelf on each side.) I put my legs off and back as I could, to minimize their visibility.
Then I measured how the leg that I had saw to get at the front legs of the headboard
I have a small hand saw kit Buck Bros. I bought Ace (you can get it at Home Depot, too). It is cheap and comes with a block that stabilizes your cut. It takes some muscle, however.
I sawed a few inches I measured and then kissed the feet to the head.
This is where you can do better than me. I realized before I started the screws supplied with the Furusund were too long, and break through the bottom shelves.
I could have just gone to the hardware store and bought shorter screws, but it was late and I wanted to do. I went ahead and screwed through the shelves, then used a Drimmel (and eye protection!) To get the level screw with the shelves.
Dumb idea. It worked, but just go for the shorter screws.
Voila! Tenant-friendly, free-standing storage headboard.
