grasscloth classic headboard
Materials: Hemnes framework queen, Anno blind Sanela, pre-finished molding polystyrene, liquid nails, saw and miter box and clamps
Description: We bought the following Hemnes bedroom furniture, but has recently started to feel tired of the bed as babies bars at the top of the head, especially as this is all we could see the headboard once all the pillows were in place. We wanted to maintain the classic, clean lines and footboard bedside without adding much weight or disassemble the bedframe. We found our solution with the blind Anno Sanela at Ikea, it was light, large enough to cover the headboard, rigid enough to maintain its shape without wrinkling, and had a seagrass texture that filled our bedding.
1. We purchased 2 pieces of 3 "x 8 'pre-finished molding that were a little fantasy and 1 1" x 8 'band to finish the bottom. The advantage with a polystyrene molding is that it is very light so all you need is glue and is prefinished with almost the same finish as the rest of the bed so you do not have to paint.
2. The molding was cut to spec with a miter saw to fit right into existing headboard. Trick:. Each side piece cut long enough that it can rest on the horizontal for strength
3. Spread glue on the bedframe where the "big 3 will mold. Make sure that the glue you use will give you time to make adjustments before setting. There is no need to paste over the edges, but you can just make the glue that tightens around the Anno Sanela may be blotted out and will dry clear tension.
4. The width of the anno Sanela is perfect for this project, just make sure the length is short enough that only a duplication of 1/2 . "glue (see photo) Thus, the molding becomes the other half of the glue and ends at the edge of the anno Sanela fix everything and let dry Tip:.. Anno Sanela is slightly transparent so you may want -be back with some hardware failure before mounting it. I visited it after the fact, but it's not a big deal to me.
5. Finally the bottom, spread the adhesive on the "molding and press 1 up. Clamps can not be used here, but it is light enough that the tape strips painters is sufficient to hold it in place until it dries. The bottom of the molding should just kiss the top of the mattress.
6. Fill the corners where the tab molding cuts meet silicone caulk. I also filled the back seam where the top part meets the original bed frame for strength.
It was such a simple update and we are very pleased with the results. We even used some of the material remaining above the bedside tables.
