Egon, the door mirror mounted
Materials: Stave, GRUNDTAL, Fixa, Esab smashweld, aluminum frame, drill, screws, glue, tape, washers
description: I live in an apartment of 30 square meters with large windows, doors and little free wall space. And as a girl, I'd love a huge full-length mirror. The only problem is that I do not have the necessary space available wall.
I asked my father if he can hang on a door 10 kg without breaking it, and if he thought we could understand something for my door. Since I have to use all the space, I have a bunch of GRUNDTAL hanging on my door and my father took a house for consideration.
After removing the protective rubberplasticthingy on the back he discovered that the hooks are pressed into holes in the main part of GRUNDTAL and it was really easy to remove!
My father had the screws and washers that fit perfectly into the holes and brackets on the mirror. We decided to try to weld them together to make a new hangar on GRUNDTAL.
There has been a great success for us carriers mounted on the short side of the frame around the mirror. I also stuck a little protective plastic on the rear face of GRUNDTAL to avoid marking of the door.
The holders were mounted together along the longer sides of the frame so after a few days, the framework began to break. I was quick enough to notice and was able to save the break mirror.
We went to a hardware store and bought a L shaped aluminum frame and glued to the wooden structure, the drilled holes and mounted holders of both aluminum and wood. We put some glue in the holes just to be sure he would. We use contact cement and screws for holders of origin, they were long enough to be usable even when we added the aluminum part.
Before mounting the brackets we put some more hot melt along the edges on the back side of the mirror.
I leave the contact cement dry before hanging EGON back to my door. I also put FIXA on the doorknob and scrap-booking ribbon between the door and Stave to avoid marks.
The hack cost me less than 700 SEK (or about $ 95 a, ¬75).
STAVE: 549 SEK
GRUNDTAL: 45 SEK
Aluminum frame: 70 SEK
Since the screws, washers, tape, glue and protective plastic was something that we had lying around I do not know the price, but I doubt it will add up to more than a total of 700 SEK (unless you have to buy glue and tape, etc.).
Happy Hacking!
