King Malm bed with no headboard storage solutions available? Time to get HACKED
Materials: 1 King size bed frame MALM, 4'x8'x3 1/4 "birch plywood, 2'x4'x1 1/4" plywood birch leaf luan, about 20 'doorstop material, 8 L hooks, various screws, etc.
description: 1) determined how far from the wall that I wanted the top shelf to be. In our case, we estimated that 11 "-12" would be good.
2) I measured the width of the "cons-plated 3/4 and cut with my saw table.
3) Since the Malm bed is 82 1 / 2 "wide, I knew I had to take into account the side frames at each end because I wanted everything to be flush with the MALM headboard comes with the bed So I cut the plate to a length of 81 3/4 ". My face frame material (doorstop mentioned in the materials) is 3/8" thick.
4) I wanted the shelves on the sides to be the same height as the bed once up sitting on them. So I cut the 4 sides of the "plated-cons who were 12" 3/4 depth of 29 7/8 "high.
5) I then cut 4 shelves to the sides of the" plywood against that were 12 "deep and 3/4 9 3/4" wide.
6) I assembled the libraries for each end by nailing the shelves in place from the sides. April 2 "long nails on each side is more than enough.
7) I cut the pieces of" luan 1/4 birch and attached with small finishing nails, making sure that the pieces were square .
8) I measured the exposed edges of plywood and cut any part of the material facing the appropriate lengths.
9) Nail on vertical parts at first and then the horizontal parts. To get this look like real furniture, I made sure to tear part of the face material so it was about 1/4 "wider than the plywood so that there is a small overhang.
10) After giving all a complete sanding with 220-grit sandpaper (pay special attention to transitions between the plywood and the face frame to make it perfectly smooth), I applied a satin polyurethane layer clear to all. I had already tested different finishes to see which ones match the nearest birch veneer.
11) I let dry overnight before sanding poly again with wool steel 000 grains to make it really smooth.
12) Installation was pretty simple. I tied the two L brackets on the side of the tray would be against the head of Malm, then crawled behind the bed and the attached to the bed While down there I joined two other brackets on the shelf and the wall ensuring secure with heavy wall anchors.
13) The bookshelves were slid into place, making sure they were flush with the outside of the headboard MALM, and fixed on the top shelf with 2 brackets each.
14) You can see on the pictures I left a void in the back of the top shelf. This is so that the cords have a place to go behind the shelf.
