Closet system using Ikea MOLGER Bench
Materials: MOLGER Banks. 5/16 pins and drill. Pliers and wedges. laser level
Description :. My closet needs a radical make-over and I could not afford the expensive closet systems. My office is 4 1/2 feet by 9 feet with clothes pins on each end. I wanted shelves in the middle which was deeper, and I liked the wooden slats instead of white coated wire shelves that I currently had.

While in Ikea, I noticed the nice smooth finish MOLGER bench with slatted wooden shelf and seat ($ 39.99 each. 31 "wide, 14 1/2 "depth of 19 1/2" high)
the plan was to stack the benches, ankle and attach to the wall studs. So far, I've used six benches, and use another to create a shelf above the rod. $ 280 for a nice wardrobe system!
first we assembled the benches. the benches are supplied with rubber feet that when removed, exposing a shallow hole. We drilled the existing hole a little deeper, to pin 5/16 "of the ankle.
Then we inserted the pegs (half way, the other half would be in the bench above) and placed the bench with studs on the next bench. We pulled around the ankles to mark the spot where the hole would go on top of the next bench. The use of a laser level, we were able to drill a hole directly in the upper part of the second bank.
We stacked the two benches together, and repeated the process for all 6 benches.
We placed four benches on one side and two on the other. To screw into the wall, we clamped together and placed chocks behind the bench / shelving our wall was not square. We tied them to the wall studs with screws.
I like the asymmetrical shelves, as it is 6 inches and 10 inches between shelves. However, if you wish, you can change the spacing when assembling benches and 8 inches between each shelf.
I like the clean lines, the increased depth and the amount of storage. They are incredibly stable and will be easy to remove and put in place again when I re-re-carpeting and paint in a few months.
