extensible Malm bedside table
Version modified with an extendable table for adjustable beds left:
Materials:
IKEA Malm 6 drawers (with a mirror in the lid ) seen at right.
a problem with adjustable beds is to achieve anything placed on a bedside table so that a solution was to make an extendable table built from a drawer Malm.
Steps
For a good height on the table, two or more drawers must be removed before the furniture is put in place. In my case, the two lower drawers needed to be removed. Use a saw to cut the sides and back of the drawer just below the horizontal board that is placed as a distance between each drawer. You will need some type of protection such as furniture legs (?) To avoid damage to the floor once the furniture is finished. Follow the instructions to put the furniture together, except the cover with the mirror and its hinges.
Now it's time to remove the mirror is affixed to the inside cover. I'm not able to remove the mirror without destroying it with a tool like a screwdriver. This work is very dangerous because you will get broken glass! Protective gloves and goggles must be used and the work must be done in a place where it is easy to clean the shards! All traces of the mirror must be removed from the lid.
At the end of the cover where the hinges are normally placed, I used the front panel down and used mounted with two screws in the middle to work as a guide when you drag the table .
Drill two 3 mm holes on the front to the drawer and use two long locking screw for unused drawers. These screws function as distances and guides for the sliding cover. They must be higher than the board at the front of the drawer because they have to fit in the lid. The easiest way is to put the lid on top of the drawer and see where the holes for the screws must be drilled
Note :. Do not place heavy objects on the extended table. I do not know how much weight the top drawer can support.
