Tufted. A love story.

scaup. A love story

Materials :. Rykene Ikea double bed.

Description: We wanted to brighten an existing Rykene bed in a guest room of our house recently purchased. I had done a little research tufting and found a good tutorial for making tufted heads. Using a pegboard and a little 3-inch foam, I put on a tuft pattern.

Using pegboard was the most ingenious idea! After determining where I wanted tufts, I cut through the foam (a little larger than the size of my button) so that the clumps would be very profound.

I used gorilla glue to hold the foam in my pegboard and put a layer of cotton sheet on top. Then I draped my fabric (we used a model really crazy - we wanted big change in this piece) on the one center the pattern on the head.

We made fabric covered buttons with a small kit (sold fabric stores) using a bright terracotta color. wire using quality furnishings, and starting at the center / top of my head, I sewed back and forth with a super long needle ... that's where it gets a little tricky.

Hold the button firmly in front I pull the super tight wire through the hole in the back and stapled in different directions to maintain tension. Also moving outward from the first tuft, I continue until I had a whole row. I started the second row in the same way and pulled the fabric diamond shaped around the buttons gently.

Once everything has been tufted, I pulled the fabric around the bottom of the pegboard and securely stapled to the back. Then I joined the pegboard in Rykene bed with a couple of wood screws to hold it tight against the frame. Afresh top / center of the headboard, I pull the fabric over the bed frame and stapled it comfortably.

I pursued the same method as above, moving uniformly from the center outward. I folded the corners of the canvas properly and finish the stitching head of the fabric on the sides. The back does not seem too clean (but I told myself that no one will ever see - and I could always put a thin piece of wood there to cover it later)

We are incredibly happy with how it turned out. It has certainly been a labor of love. My hands are killing me tufting (the upholstery thread is merciless against your hands!) I am also pleased that we opted for a really funky fabric. We found at Joann's in their tissue section of the house using a coupon of 50%! Hooray for deals!

The duvet, curtains and carpets are also from Ikea! We like to do this one looks and gives a clean / modern feel yet. We struggled a bit with our new home (it is an old colonial 110 years) because our style is very mid-century, but our old house wants something nice too!
