Rast Hack, Wall Mandal Mini Dresser
I'm a big fan of all IKEA Mandal room and wanted a chest to match my Mandal headboard. However the unit with drawers black is interrupted and the current 4 drawers chest is too big for my space.
So Rast bought with the intention of making it look like a piece mandal.
Materials
-Ikea Rast 3 drawers
-Black Paint or Stain (I used Minwax Poloyshades black, satin finish)
load -Wood (for cover the holes in the drawer fronts)
-L-brackets (for mounting on the wall)
tools
: drill
dRILLING-Saw
first I started with Rast and cut the section under the drawer, leaving a lip to the piece of wood at the border.
I punched new holes in the side to keep the border piece in place. Its the same song used in the original Mandal, I just turned on its side.
Then I borrowed a jigsaw to cut the fronts of drawers and mandal load of wood used in drawers holes.
I sanded surfaces after leaving the dry load.
Then I spotted using Minwax as I wanted grain to show through, but the paint would have worked as well for color.
to finish the top and side panels I used BEHANDLA beeswax treatment. Since Mandal is Birch and Pine Rast is, I chose this to see if it would mimic the color well. It is similar, but does not achieve the same level of darkness.
Here it is before I got on my wall.
I propped up on a toolkit to facilitate the assembly and was able to find a stud in which to mount my hooks.
I use two large supports for the top, (approximately 2 "). And two smaller (about 2") to support the environment.
Those left are mounted in a stud, I used drywall anchors for those on the right. This should be sure that I do not plan on loading it with heavy objects.
This is the finished product!
